What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine blends Evidence-Based Medicine with traditional Naturopathic Philosophy. It is a distinct system of health care that treats the root cause of illness by supporting the body’s innate ability to heal.

Naturopathic Philosophy states that illness is a process which presents differently in each person. All aspects of the individual including physical, physiological, mental, emotional and lifestyle factors need to be considered in order to determine specific and individualized treatments.

By assessing and addressing obstacles to healing while treating the underlying conditions for ill-health, resolution of acute and chronic conditions can be achieved in a truly holistic manner. Due to the large scope of Naturopathic Medicine, concerns can be addressed with the goals of achieving resolution, preventing acute flare-ups or progression of known conditions and preventing potential future illness.

Read the Naturopathic Medicine Services section below for more details on how this is accomplished.

Why Should I See a Naturopathic Doctor?
Naturopathic Doctors (ND) are Primary Care professionals who incorporate modern medical diagnostics with a variety of natural therapies to determine a unique and comprehensive treatment plan for your concerns.
As an ND, Chelsea treats the underlying cause of illness rather than solely focusing on symptoms. By addressing and removing obstacles to healing, both symptom management and prevention of disease progression can be accomplished.
By assessing all aspects of your health, Chelsea can help determine areas where you may require extra support, whether that be better sleep, more energy, less stress or specific strategies for prevention of disease, symptom management and disease progression.
Seeing an ND means a more comprehensive assessment. NDs spend more time with their patients than most other health care providers which gives you the opportunity to fully express your personal history and concerns.
Naturopathic Treatments are supportive to other treatments such as Chiropractic, Physiotherapy and Massage. All treatments are thoroughly assessed before prescribing to avoid negative interactions with current treatments, including medications.
Most extended health insurance plans cover Naturopathic Services which is a great way to access more comprehensive and personalized care.
